About Pet Care Explained

An educational resource produced by Vetemis Referrals, focused on helping dog and cat owners understand investigations and treatment options.

Why we made it

When a vet suggests a scan, a camera examination or surgery, it’s natural to have questions. What will the test show? Is there an alternative? What happens on the day? Pet Care Explained aims to answer those questions clearly, so you can have better-informed conversations with your vet.

Who produces it

Pet Care Explained is produced by Vetemis Referrals, a veterinary referral service. It is not an independent comparison service, and it doesn’t rank or recommend particular practices. Where it’s relevant, we link to the Vetemis website so you can find out more about their services.

What it can — and can’t — do

Our guides explain how investigations and treatments generally work. They can’t diagnose your pet or tell you which treatment is right for them. Your own vet, who knows your pet, is the best person to help you decide.

How we write and review

Each guide is written in plain language and then reviewed by a clinician. Every guide shows who wrote it, who reviewed it and when — once those details are verified. Until then, guides are clearly labelled as drafts.
